Breathing treatments...

I took Joshua to the doctor yesterday. He's had a dry cough for awhile. (I asked the pedi about it at his 4 month appointment and he's now 5 1/2 months) It seemed like it was getting worse now that he sits up so much. When he would be playing hard or laughing, he'd start to cough. The doctor listened to his chest & lungs. She wanted to see if a breathing treatment would help him. The nurse brought in the nebulizer and mask, showed me how to put the medicine in and turn it on. Then she left me with a scared baby and an even more scared mommy. He screamed and cried the whole treatment. It was horrible. Doctor listened to his lungs again and his breathing had improved. We left the doctor's office with a nebulizer to give him treatments at home. We have to give him a breathing treatment 3 times a day. I've given him 5 treatments and each time they get easier and we (Joshua & I) cry less. All of his coughing has been stirring up the acid in his tummy and causing him to spit up quite a bit & make the back of his throat red. Joshua was also given an anti acid medicine we have to give him 2 times a day. More than likely he will grow out of the asthma and acid issues as he gets older. It's just hard for me to handle. I feel so bad that he's only 5 1/2 months old and already has 2 of my medical issues. I know it's nothing that I could have changed that he has these issues, but it still breaks my heart. It's very hard to have to hold him still and force him to keep a mask over his little face while he's screaming. He's so young he doesn't understand it's to make him feel better. The doctor will see how he's doing in a couple of weeks at his 6 month check up. Maybe by then he won't have to take the treatments so many times a day! He seems to be doing better today ~ less fussy & more playful. Hopefully each treatment will get easier and he will continue to improve!

Daddy was working in his garden (finally dry enough to get his plants in) so Joshua and I decided to sit in the shade of our tree and watch Daddy work.

This was Joshua's first time sitting outside in the grass. He felt the grass, pulled some grass, but never once tried to stick it in his mouth. I was so surprised!

We didn't stay out too long because it was pretty warm out.

I've been having trouble getting any video posted, so I thought I'd try again today... IT Worked!!

Auntie (Aunt Jennifer has decided that will be what Joshua calls her) keeps talking about getting JCS a drum set. I think the little guy might have some rhythm!!

More fun sitting and playing with toys! It amazes me how well he is doing sitting up! He can't sit himself up, but if you sit him up he will stay up and play for a long time.

He's just growing so fast. It blows me away! 

If you notice in the picture above Simpson (the bear) is holding the flowers. Joshua decided he'd like to hold them instead. He thought it was so funny I couldn't get him to look at me, just wanted to look at the flowers.  Silly boy!

I had a bride call yesterday. She wanted to make a consultation appointment to discuss flowers for her wedding on December 11th. After she told me the date, I really don't think I heard anything that she said. Joshua turns a year old on December 12th. I had a hard time thinking someone was planning a wedding for when he's turning 1. That can't be possible, can it?

5 months & Sitting up!!!

So it wasn't long, about 45 seconds, but he did it!! All on his own!! 

He can't look up while trying to sit. I think his rather large head throws off his balance and cause him to lean to one side or fall back. He'll grow into that head eventually! :)

He was also very interested in his new shoes and his elephant, so I have a feeling that helped him stay sitting too!

Our little roller is getting used to being on his tummy. He's never really been a fan of just laying on his tummy, but now that he knows how to get back and forth, he doesn't seem to mind as much. He was nearly asleep with his elephant on his tummy!

The pictures I get like this I just love, but also scare me just a bit. He's looks like he's up to no good or thinking about doing something... I'm sure we'll see lots more of this look in the days & years ahead!

Tonight is Shannon (my cousin) & Tom's pre wedding party (a meet & greet kind of thing) and I've been saving this outfit for tonight. I just knew when I put his overalls on he was going to be sooooo cute. I also knew that his grandparents & great grandparents will just love the outfit too!

Joshua is wearing size 2 shoes. I don't know if that's average or not, but I know this kiddo had out grown more pairs of shoes in 5 months then I've bought in the last 2 years!!

 

 Joshua turned 5 months old yesterday! He's just growing & learning so fast! What a blessing he is to us!!

Sorry about the poor lighting. Before bed a couple of nights ago, we were really playful. Joshua's really got this rolling thing down!

My first Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was wonderful. Jim got up with JCS, fed him his first bottle and let me go back to sleep. Yea! When I got up Joshua was snugly and about ready for his morning nap. I got in some good cuddle time, then laid him down to rest. Jim made me pancakes & sausage. Yum!

After church we headed to my parent's house to celebrate Mother's Day & Grandpa Wilbur's birthday. Since it was my first mother's day, I got to open my gift first. Jim did a wonderful job!!

Jim made an impressions of one of Joshua's foot and hand. Let them dry then mounted them into this frame with one of my favorite pictures of Joshua in the middle. This was not a easy task for Jim. He usually leaves the creative stuff to me, but I'm very proud of him for trying and succeeding!! This was all very sneaky, but as Jim pointed out, that part wasn't too hard. I wasn't home much the end of last week.

Jim had a little of the foam stuff left, so he made an impression of Duke's paw!

Joshua in the middle of a roll

This is kinda where Joshua and Duke's relationship is right now. We are starting to having some jealousy issues with Duke. Duke is fine if we are all home and playing on a blanket on the ground. However, if it's just Jim, Joshua & Duke, Duke gets upset that Jim's not playing with him. Duke has NEVER hurt or attempted to hurt Joshua. Duke just pouts, whines or will go off by himself. Duke just wants attention, so we are trying to make an effort to make sure Duke gets lots of love!

This outfit came from Great Grandma Barbara. The bib says "most wanted" and the socks are made to look like cowboy boots. Seriously, too cute. He was a big hit at church! (like always)

Notice, Joshua is starting to "tripod" and working on sitting up on his own. I know you can't tell from these pictures but his back and sides aren't touching the couch. Our big boy is growing so fast!

The Garden

Jim's pride and joy...(besides Joshua)

This set up is in our garage. Jim was going to put this in the house, but it kept getting bigger and bigger.

I might tease Jim about how much time he spends with his plants, but I am very proud of the all the plants he has growing. A big thanks to (Gpa) Gary for teaching Jim about how to grow a great garden (and a big thanks to Gary for expanding his garden to grown more corn on the request of his daughter in laws!!)  I know later in the summer we will be so happy to have all of these fresh veggies!! We plan on using the veggies to make baby food for Joshua.
