Robert D. “Bob” Rising, 88, died peacefully at the home of his daughter Mary Isenberg Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.

Bob was born on Feb. 16, 1924, in Rayne Township, Indiana County, to George Fredick and Mary E. Stuart Rising.

He lived his entire life in Rayne Township, and was the third generation to own and operate the farm purchased by his grandfather, Joseph Rising. The state of Pennsylvania recognized his property as a Century Farm in 1995. In addition to farming, Bob worked for Rayne Township as both a laborer and supervisor. He was a member of the PA Farmers Association and the Home Grange. Family was most important, and Bob enjoyed spending time with his family.

On May 5, 1950, Bob married Lois Jean Houser, and together they raised 10 children. Bob is survived by his children: Mary Isenberg and husband Ronald, Carol Buterbaugh and husband Larry, Patricia Rising, John Rising and wife Jennifer (Kunkle) and Edward Rising and wife Rene (Arotin), all of Indiana; Catherine Kimmel and husband Randall, of Home; R. Joseph Rising and wife Sarah (Anthony), of Rochester Mills; Linda Stephens and husband Gary, of Huntertown, Ind.; Janet Lippert and husband Russell, of Marion Center; and Joanne Ruffner and husband Gerald, of Homer City;

17 grandchildren: Steven Isenberg and wife LeeAnne (Syster), Susan Isenberg and friend Benjamin Elkin, Jr., Shanna (Kimmel) and husband Aaron Scordo, Lisa (Lippert) and husband Alex Sabo, Z. Andrew Kunkle, Jakeb Rising and Hannah Rising, all of Indiana; Matthew Kimmel and wife Allison (Cloak), of Marion Center; Tina (Rising) Mundy and husband David, of Ashville, N.C.; Peggy (Rising) Cribbs and husband Jason, of Blairsville; James Stephens and wife Andrea (Pershing), of West Lafayette, Ind.; David Stephens and wife Jackie (Wallace), of Mishawaka, Ind.; Thomas Stephens and wife Sue (Walker) of Savannah, Ga.; Lee Lippert and friend Meggan George, of Rochester Mills; and Nicholas Ruffner and Stephanie Ruffner, both of Homer City;

14 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Shawn, Levi and Garrett Isenberg, Morgan Kimmel, Jolene and Alex Cribbs, Joshua, Benjamin, Samuel, Savannah, Isaiah and Ellie Stephens and Sophie Sabo; a sister, Dolores “Dorie” Benamati, of Penn Run; and a brother, Donald Rising, of Calumet City, Ill; numerous nieces and nephews; and good friend and neighbor, George Rapach, of Indiana.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, in 1981; a son, William, in 1961; a grandson, Andrew Isenberg, in 2000; twin great-granddaughters, Faith and Hope Sabo, in 2011; sisters: Anna Mary Rising, Roselma Bothell and Elizabeth “Betty” Rockey; and a brother, Joseph Rising

Pap Pap was a strong man that raised a beautiful family. His children care for each other, their community and the land. 10 children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren & more on the way is a wonderful testament of the kind of family man that Pap Pap was.  He was so proud that there were no repeating first names in all his grand kids and great grand kids.  Pap Pap was a great man that we are all better from knowing him. He will truly be missed until we see him again some day.
